ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS ENCOURAGING YEAR’S WORK There was a large gathering of members of the Hanover Street Baptist Church last evening on the occasion of the seventy-sixth annual meeting. The following appointments were made:—Elders —Messrs W. Mitchell, H. P. Desmoulins, and J. Swann (reappointed); deacons —Messrs I. McAllum, G. Brasier, C. E. Beckingsale, J Cooper, J. Stewart, H. Drew, G. M Megget, D. McPherson, A, Maxwell, and G. S. Jones; secretary, Mr P. U. Harvey; Communion secretary, Mr S. C. Hercus; treasurer, Mr N. D. Anderson; auditors, Messrs F. B. Adams and S. C. Hercus; envelope secretary. Miss E. Maddock; envelope treasurer. Miss M. Valentine: Monthly Messenger —business manager Mr G. Hendry, distributor, Miss M. Valentine: Sunday school superintendent, Mr I. McAllum; New Zealand Baptist agent, Mr G. I. Austin; flower committee —Misses B. Stewart, Williams, and Mirams. and Mesdames Maxwell and Swann; New Zealand Baptist Union agent, Miss N Stewart; mission collector, Miss Williams; hall-letting committee, the pastor and Mr G. Brasier; senior Y.M.B.C leader, Mr T. A. Morland: Council of Christian Congregations delegates, Dr C. North and Mr E. H. Drew; deaconess, Mrs Hiett; choirmaster, Mr H. P. Desmoulins; organist, Miss P. Westland; caretaker. Mr A. R. Richardson. Although the forces of evil to-day were probably greater than ever before, said the church secretary (Mr P. U. Harvey) in his annual report, the church was able to stand, and more than stand, against these forces with the firmness, steadfastness and loyalty which was characteristic of the Christian Church. It was gratifying to see maintained the interest in all organisations. while the church membership reached the high figure of 380 The balance sheet revealed that during the year £1397 Is 8d had been subscribed by the church. The treasurer (Mr H. D Anderson) said he was pleased to report a credit balance.
Members present were able to obtain an insight into the work of the various branches of the church activity, as a representative from each organisation presented a comprehensive report. A novel feature was the sending of greetings by various members present to those members who were unable to be present. The meeting was brought to a close by the benediction, after which supper was handed round by the Ladies’ Committee.
