ORGAN RECITAL
AN INTERESTING PROGRAMME A large holiday attendance listened on Sunday night to the organ recital given in the Town Hall by Mr C. Roy Spackman. The programme was a varied one, and the solos by Miss Jean McLay and the items by the Otago Girls' High School carol party, as well as the organ solos, were received with evident appreciation. , Mr Spackman, who displayed a judicious sense of selection in his organ items, played "Gothic March (Salome), "Sunset Melody ' (Vincent) "A Scotch Carol" (arr. Guilmant), "Evensong" (Easthope Martin), "Offertoire on Two Christmas Themes" (Guilmant), "Serenade" (Victor Herbert), "Andante in F ' (Wely), "The Holy Boy" (Ireland), and " Offertoire for Christmas Season " (Barrett). The seasonal note was well emphasised in these solos, as well as in the offerings by the girls' choir, which included: "In the Bleak Midwinter" (Hoist). "'Hark, How Sweetly the Bells" (George Fox), "Child in the Manger" (Old French), and "Holy Night" (arr. Hugh Roberton). Miss McLay. who chose her compositions from Handel, sang " He Was Despised "Then Shall the Eyes of the Blind be Opened" and "He Shall Feed His Flock." The accompanist was Mr T. J. Kirk-Burnnand.
