PASSENGER RECOVERING '• i Feb United I're&w association i AUCKLAND, Dec. 23. ,An operation at sea performed by the ship's doctor, Joseph Aiierbach, was the only incident of note on the Monterey's .passage from San Francisco to Auckland. The §atient was a passenger, Mr R. E. mith, who was travelling to Sydney, and whose condition became acute beS tween Honolulu and Suva. The operation was successful, and , Mr Smith is now recovering.
