PROVISION OF BASE FACILITIES BUILDINGS TO BE ERECTED <Peb United Press associationi, WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. The Minister of Defence (Mr, F. Jones), said to-day that Cabinet "had approved of the provision of additional base facilities for the trans-Tasman service at Auckland. A building 160 feet by 40 feet deep, with a height of 30 feet, was being provided at Hobsonville, where the flying boats could be taken upon a slipway for repair,and the removal and replacement: of engines. [ A workshop building 120 feet by 100 feet was being provided at Mechanics Bay for repairs to engines and airframes, and for the housing of stores. A small engine test house was also being built there, ana an administration building for the booking and meteorological officers. The work was being undertaken by the Edwards Construction Company, and a start was expected to be made on January 4. The Auckland Harbour Board is undertaking the provision of • the necessary landing stage, pontoon and gangways, and will also arrange to clear the site for the building contractor.
