SOUTH OTAGO
CLUTHA PRESBYTERY CALL TO REV. A. L. MILLER The Presbytery of Clutha met pro re nata yesterday afternoon to deal with the resignation of the Rev. A. L. Miller, M.A., from the charge of Balclutha. Stating his reasons for resigning the charge, Mr Miller said that he had been approached 18 months ago to take charge of the Chinese Church in Dunedin. He had declined then, and recommended the Chinese session to try to get a Chinese minister from China. This had been found to be impossible, and there seemed no one else in a position to undertake the work. He felt it was a clear call and that he could do no other than accept. The presbytery agreed regretfully to accept the resignation and to dissolve the pastoral tie from January 31. Several commissioners from the Balclutha congregation were heard, all bearing testimony to the high regard in which Mr and Mrs Miller were held in the parish, and expressing deep regret at losing them. Members of the presbytery spoke of the esteem in which Mr Miller-was held throughout the presbytery and referred to his qualifications for his new task. The Rev. T. G. Calder was appointed interim moderator of Balclutha, and the Rev. F. Winton to take Mr Miller's place as interim moderator of the Clutha Valley parish. The Rev. R. Judson was appointed to succeed Mr Miller as convener of the Missions Committee.
