CHRISTMAS WEATHER
METEOROLOGIST'S FORECAST' A FINE WEEK-END • (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, Dee. 23. In a special forecast for the Christmas holiday period, the direc- - tor of meteorological services (Dr E. Kidson) said that on Thursday an anti-cycjone was advancing across the Tasman Sea and that there was a prospect of an improvement in the weather over New Zealand as it approached. At the same time, a tropical cyclone had developed in the Fiji Island group. This cyclone had since moved ir. a south-south-easterly direction, and this morning had centred between the Kermadecs and Tonga, causing the pressure to fall temporarily over the North Island on Thursday night arid winds to freshen over the South Island. On the whole, however, there had been a rise of pressure and souther- ' lies had brought light ■ showers to many places this morning,- especi- : ally to the eastern and northern districts. The weather was becoming more settled, and prospects' for to-morrow were fairly favour-- : able for most districts. The winds should decrease and temperatures gradually rise. A fresh and rather vigorous disturbance had already developed over the south-east of Australia, so that any prolonged Spell of fine weather was still unlikely. : Still, fair weather would probably be experienced on Sunday over most ' of the Dominion, but on the West Coast of the South Island and in the far south, a renewal of the unsettled' conditions could be expected, and by ; Monday this -should have gradually L become general. Prospects for the' middle portion of next week were not favourable. •"
