CABINET ON VACATION
PRESENTATION TO PRIME MINISTER TRIBUTE BY COLLEAGUES (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. The work of Cabinet for this year will virtually end to-morrow, by which time most of the Ministers will have left Wellington for a short vacation. One or two of them are postponing their departure until the week-end or early next week. The Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage) will be remaining in Wellington but, like everyone else who has the opportunity, he intends to take things easy over the holiday period. The members of Cabinet in Wellington to-day met Mr Savage and made him a presentation of a set of crystal from his Ministerial colleagues. They asked the Prime Minister’s acceptance of this gift as a token of appreciation of his wonderful comradely qualities, coupled with their utmost confidence in his judgment and leadership. The Ministers assured Mr Savage that the burdens of office were made easier by reason of his pleasing personality and sound judgment, and his determination to look after the interests of the people. It was, they said, a pleasure to them to serve under him.
Making the presentation, the Minister of Education (Mr P. Fraser) said the gift symbolised the goodwill felt by the Ministers towards Mr Savage. On behalf of the Ministry, he wished Mr Savage a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. Mr Savage expressed keen appreciation of the gift and said no one could wish for more loyal colleagues. His task was made easier by their help and encouragement.
