THE WAIKOUAITI MAIN HIGHWAY
ro THE EDITOR Sir,—May I seek a little information as' to which body, the Main Highways Board or the Waikouaiti County Council, is responsible for the dirty, unkempt, weed-overgrown, grassovergrown, and dog-overrun state of the main highway through the township of Waikouaiti? Although a very fine highway has been constructed through Waikouaiti at a great expense, yet we find the conditions existing that I have mentioned. When one asks an old identity serving on the council about it, he strokes his beard, cocks his eye, and very wisely says he thinks that it is the Main Highways Board that is not doing its duty, and then shuffles'off home. Here we have the holiday season approaching, and we find the streets in the condition stated To my way of thinking, the Health Department should be interested, for there is water discharging from the main street through private properly, which must be a danger to health. —1 am, etc., Information.
