PIG EXPORT
SOUTHLAND INDUSTRY SLIGHT DECREASE FOR SEASON (Special to Daily Times) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 21. Greater development of the pigraising industry in Southland has been frequently advocated, and the impression is fairly generally held that this province does not produce more pigs than are needed for local requirements. There is, however, a fairly substantial export trade in pigs, and, during the present season, approximately 5000 pigs have been killed in Southland for export. The Southland Frozen Meat Company installed facilities for killing and dressing of pig carcasses at its Makarewa works about four vears ago, and fair numbers of pigs have been killed each season. The current season closed this week, the total killings being 4944, compared with 4959 last season.
