ALLEGED WIFE MURDER
CHARGE AGAINST MAORI FURTHER REMAND GRANTED (Feb United Press Association) GISBORNE. Dec. 20. Charged with the murder of his wife at Tuparoa on December 10, Rewikerehi Grace, alias Dave Grace, aged 46, appeared on remand before Mr E. L. 'Walton, S.M., this morning, and was further remanded until January 23. Making application for an adjournment, the police stated that their inquiries were not yet complete, but it was expected that on January 23 it would be possible to ask for a definite fixture for the preliminary hearing at Ruatoria. Following the death in the Te Puia HoSpital on Saturday, December 10, of a Maori woman, Materkina Grace, aged 32, of Tuparoa, her husband, Dave Grace, aged 42, also a Maori, was arrested on December 13, and charged with the murder of his wife. He appeared subsequently before the court at Ruatoria, and on the application of the police was remanded. Mrs Grace was admitted to the hospital on the Thursday night in an unconscious condition, resulting from injuries which are understood to include a fracture of the skull. She never recovered consciousness. and succumbed early on Saturday morning.
