NOTES FROM TRENTHAM

RIDERS FOR MANAWATU (Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. Continued broken weather has greatly hampered training operations at Trentham for some weeks, and the climax was reached this morning when a thunderstorm ana deluge on already greasy tracks made conditions more like midwinter than midsummer. The first few horses out after dawn galloped in a light rain and on a greasy track, but within an hour extremely heavy rain settled any further chance of serious training. This was unfortunate, since Trentham teams are expected to figure prominently in the forthcoming holiday racing. The largest team from Trentham will be that of T. R. George, who will have a dozen or so racing at Manawatu, two at Ellerslie, and one at Waipukurau. H. A. Telford will have six at Awapuni on Saturday, In all more than 25 horses from Trentham will be taking part in racing away at Christmas and New Year. Beaulivre is in great fettle again, and there is no sign of any shin soreness. He will leave for Ellerslie on Thursday in the charge of H. Clout, and P. Atkins will ride him.

It has been decided that Peerless will run in the Manawatu Cup on Saturday and then will be sent on to Auckland on Monday. She will be a starter in the Great Northern Derby. The suggested Australian trip is off and she will race through the autumn in New Zealand. No rider has been announced for her in the Great Northern Derby, but in the Manawatu Cup she will be ridden by L. J. Ellis. A shapely filly and a free galloper is the Bulandshar two-year-old Bronzeshar, who will be given her first outing at ManaWatu. With R. Hawes up she ran an easy three furlongs. Floral Robe will not be going to Hawke’s Bay, but will be at Manawatu.

The only member of T. R. George’s team to go to Hawke’s Bay will be Lady Baron, who is in at Waipukurau on Boxing Day, and she will then be taken on to the Hawke’s Bay meeting. She will be in charge of M Riordan.

Royal Star II worked well in finishing in front of Debham after five furlongs run in Imin ssec. the last half taking 52sec. Accomplice and Sigurd ran together for six furlcngs, but the pace was not on. Both are forward Accomplice has never been in more solid condition, and she should be an early winner. Sunee and Good Sun ran half a mile in 53 2-ssec. and the former was doing the better at the finish. The following riding engagements of Trentham horses for Manawatu have

been confirmeiil):—L. J. Ellis—Peerless (probably a fetw pounds over-weight), Dungarvan, Bejau Vite, Floral Robe; S. Anderson—Lusltral, Daregain, Trebor; H N. Wiggins, Drachma, Hinerawe; W Doyle, Roatming; J. Forsyth, Galteemore; G. Rl Tattersall, Siegmund; L. H. Clifford, Wedding Eve; A. E. Bennet, Sunee; H. Hawes. Sunbeam, Bronzeshar.
