RICCARTON NOTES

USEFUL GALLOPS (Special to Daily Times) CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 20. The weather was fine for early work at Riccarton, but conditions were not so pleasant after breakfast, and light rain set in before the proceedings ended. The No. 1 grass track was in great order and some fast sprints were registered along the back. Sovereign Lady opened proceedings with the best seven furlongs of the morning. She registered Imin 28 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 3-ssec. She is in great order for her engagements on the southern circuit. Tantivy beat Palmyra over half a mile up the back in 48 4-ssec, Moorsotis and Prudent Prince following in 48 3-ssec, while Lady Leigh went even better to register 48sec. Then Kilrobe came along to do 47 3-ssec, the best sprint of the morning. Rebel Star ran five furlongs in Imin 3 4-ssec, the last four in 50 4-ssec, Capricious beat Garonne by. a neck in Imin 3 3-ssec.

Ferriby, the Nighlmarch—Charmeuse gelding, took Imin 58 2-ssec for a mile.

Nightdress was going easily all the way over seven furlongs in Imin 39sec, Capital following in Imin 36 2-ssec. Metal Bird and Bit o’ Blue were on terms at the end of six furlongs in Imin 17sec, the last four in 52 l-ssec. Wine Card beat Cape Gabo over a mile in Imin 44 3-ssec. She opened out a gap of several lengths while doing the first half in 51 4-ssec and still had an advantage of a length at the winning post', though Cape Gabo, under nressure, was overhauling her. Dracula drew away in the straight to beat Happy Memory over five furlongs in Imin 3 2-ssec. Montessa, Great Baby, and Miss Otis were in that order at the end of half a mile up the back in 49 l-ssec. They all look well for southern engagements. Rebel Queen beat Windward over seven furlongs in Inin 31 4-ssec. Chanteur was a neck in front of Maka Ahi at the end of five furlongs in Imin 3 4-ssec.

Supreme Court beat Jewish Lad over seven furlongs in Imin 35sec. Pol Roger led Wandarobe over six furlongs m Imin 17 2-ssec, though the latter finished well to be only a neck behind her mate at the finish. Maroha, after taking 39 2-ssec for the first three, completed seven furlongs in Imin 30 3-ssec, a good effort. Hoy Bun sprinted half a mile in 51 sec, without being ridden out. Haughty Toti registered Imin 3 2-5 sec for five furlongs, with a mate to bring her home. Rebel Chief was much too good for Great Bramble over seven furlongs in Imin 30sec.

Second Innings was not hurried to do half a mile in 53 2-ssec. There was not much between Lord Hawke and Gold Boy at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 32sec. On the plough, The Sandwichman went at an even pace over six furlongs in Imin 20sec, and Glenogil was not extended in a run over half a mile.

Top Rank (A. Stove) was schooled over three hurdles. He went at a solid pace, jumping the first two very well, but blundering slightly at the third. The Victorian trainer F. Foulsham has been on a hurried trip to the Dominion, most of It spent in the North Island, but in the course of a few days he was in Christchurch he had a look round some of the Riccarton stables. He went north last night on his way back to Melbourne.
