STRETTO IN GREAT FORM (Feb United Pbess Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 20. With the approach of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting there was a lot of interesting work at Ellerslie this morning on the course proper, on which the poles were 45ft out. The weather was fine, though very windy, and the course was in excellent order There were some good trials, those to impress most being Marie’s Acre and Tooley Street over half a mile. Konneta and High Caste over five furlongs and Stretto over seven furlongs. The Cup candidates, Mazir and Padishah, registered a good effort over a mile and a-quarter. Good Passage strode over six furlongs in Imin 23 3-ssec. She was going well within herself at the end. Over a similar distance Trench Fight took Imin 24 4-ss,gc. He was under restraint throughout. The Railway Handicap candidate, Paper Slipper, (Humphries), hit out freely while running five furlongs in Imin 7 3-ssec, the first two in 25 2-ssec. He is in fine trim. ,

Gay Son, after running his first three furlongs in 40 4-ssec, was going comfortably at the conclusion of seven furlongs in Imin 35 l-ssec. This three-year-old is in tip-top order after his recent racing. Mazir and Padishah were companions over a mile and a-quarter, which they ran in 2min 15 l-ssec. the final round in 2min 5 l-ssec. They traversed the last seven furlongs in Imin 32 3-ssec. and the final half-mile :n 54 3-ssec. Mazir had a slight advantage at the finish, but Padishah was going particularly well over the last'stage of the gallop. Kelly did a mile in. Imm 45 2-ssec, the last seven furlongs in _ Imin 31 4-ssec. and the final half-mile in 53 2-ssec. He was going well at the end and pulled up well. Defaulter was going comfortably beside Dictate over six furlongs in Imin 20sec, the last three being covered in 39 4-ssec The best seven furlongs of the morning was credited to Stretto, who ran right away from Philcourt and completed the distance in Imin 30 4-ssec. Stretto ran her first half-mile in 49 4-ssec, and the last five furlongs in Imin Isec. It was a first-class effort. Willie Win occupied Imin 37sec for seven furlongs, after taking 40 2-ssec for the first three, doing his work comfortably at the end, Marie’s Acre and La Vie reeled off half a mile in 50 4-ssec, the last three taking 38 4-ssec. There was little between them at the finish, though Marie’s Acre was going the easier of the pair. The best five furlongs of the morning was credited to the Great Northern Foal Stakes candidates, Konneta and High Caste. They ran the first two in 23 4-ssec, Konneta being about four lengths in front, but High Caste was almost on terms with her at the finish. The full distance took Imin 3 l-ssec. It was a good effort. After running his first three furlongs in 38 3-ssec, Courtcraft was going well within himself.

Lutanist (Wiggins), after taking 13sec for the first furlong, was not bustled to run half a mile in 54sec. Over a similar distance, Tooley Street registered 50 4-ssec, after running his first furlong in 12 l-ssec. His time was equal to the best of the morning. Coronation (Wiggins) was timed to run the last six of seven furlongs in Imin 18 l-ssec. It was a good effort for a maiden. Arrivals include Entail. Homily. Submission. The Buzzer.
