LAWRENCE
Ernest Newman, of Waipori, appeared before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., at the Lawrence Court on Monday charged with having, on November 26, at Waipori. killed two paradise ducks without authority.—Constable Parkhill stated that the defendant fired two shots from a Browning automatic shotgun, killing two paradise ducks, and was seen to hurry and pick them up. He was interviewed by the society’s ranger, but denied all knowledge of the shooting, stating that he was shooting rabbits. When interviewed by Constable Parkhill. defendant at first denied the shooting, but later admitted it. He was convicted and fined £3 and court costs (10s). His automatic Browning shotgun, valued at £ 15, wsconfiscated.
