JEWS IN RUMANIA
FUND FOR MIGRATION MOSTLY FROM TAXATION COLONISATION IN PALESTINE (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 19. (Received Dec. 19, at 8 p.m.) The News Chronicle's Bucharest correspondent states that the Government is subsidising a fund of £1,000,000, mostly from a tax on Jewish incomes, in order to finance Jewish colonisation in Palestine and elsewhere, giving each migrant £2O, free passport and free transoort to any Mediterranean port. Another £1,000,000 will be devoted to buying Jewish estates. Voluntary migrants are estimated to number 20,000 a year, but the Government wants the number increased to 30,000. Thousands of trading licences have been withdrawn from Jews in order to reduce their commercial influence. Apparently 25,000 Rumanian Jews will be deprived of a means of livelihood early in 1939.
