RESIDENCES FOR ROYALTY
PREPARING FOR DUKE OF KENT NURSERY AT CANBERRA HOUSE . <Fhom Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY, Dec. 2. Preparations for the reception of Australia's Royal Governor-General-designate, the Duke of Kent, continue to arouse widespread public interest. A spacious nursery and playroom will be features of Government House at Canberra, when it is remodelled to accommodate the Duke and Duchess of Kent. These will be for the two young children of the royal pair. Remodelling of the residence, at a cost of £25,000, will include, the addition of a ballroom, enlarged dining and reception rooms, and extensive private and staff quarters. Work on the new additions will start within three months. The Minister iof Works (Mr H. V. Thorby) will be in Melbourne this week-end to make preliminary inquiries ' for a residence there for the Duke and Duchess. He is expected to negotiate with the Victorian Government for the use of the former Federal Government House, which is being temporarily occupied by the State Governor (Lord Huntingfield). Admiralty House, Sydney, which was renovated recently, is considered suitable for a royal residence.
