FINE HARBOUR IN CEYLON GREAT STRATEGICAL VALUE LONDON, Oct. 17. (Received Dec. 18, at 6 p.m.) The Daily Telegraph's aviation correspondent says that the Royal Air Force Sunderland flying boats, which have their base at Singapore, are actively surveying a trans-ocean route between Singapore and Trinccmalee, Ceylon, where an air naval base costing £1,500,000 will be established. The harbour, which is described by the Admiralty as one of the world's most perfect in strategical value, is halfway between Aden and Singapore. It is recognised that it mav be more important if the Japanese persuade Siam to allow the cutting of a canal through the Malay Feninsula. passing Singapore.
