BALCLUTHA Cricket No A Grade matches were played in South Otago on Saturday. CJutha B defeated Clinton at Balclutha. Clinton made 94 (Robinson 22 not out, Neilson 18; McGregor five for 28, Keach two for 11). Clutha's score was 175 (McGregor 78, Gormack 30).. Clarke (four for 52) was the best bowler for Clinton. In a match on the High School ground, Owaka beat School by 88 runs to 49 in a poor scoring two innings game. School in its first knock only achieved 20 runs.and in its second 29, while the Owaka scores were 49 and 39 respectively. Maniototo County defeated South Otago for the Crosby Morris Cup at Patearoa on Saturday by 122 runs to 98. Batting first. Guest three. • Freezing Works Start The South Otago freezing works opened on Thursday for a short season before Christmas with a board of 17 butchers, and 1320 lambs were dealt with on the first day. Presbyterian Church The Rev. T. G. Calder conducted the service at the Balclutha Presbyterian Church yesterday morning, and afterwards presided at, a congregational meeting" held to appoint commissioners to represent the - congregation at a meeting of the Presbytery of Clulha, which has been convened to take action regarding the resignation of the,; minister (the Rev. The congregations of ' the , local Presbyterian and Methodist Churches held a combined Christmas service in the Toko Presbyterian Church last night's service, 'which was choral practically throughout. Nicholls delivered, a short, address appropriate to the season of goodwill^ Cricket The Milton Cricket Club had only its B team, engaged in the South Otago Association's shield fixtures on Saturday afternoon, and in a closely-con-tested double-innings match defeated the Benhar team on the latter's ground by the narrow margin of only seven runs. The game was notable for low scoring throughout, and some excellent bowling averages were recorded. Batting first. Milton B scored 54 runs, G. Woods (19) being the only doublefigure contributor, against the bowling of G. Barron (seven for 21) and Barnett (three'for 24). Benhar were dismissed for 33, Heads and Wybrow each capturing five wickets for 15. In their second innings six Milton batsmen were dismissed for "ducks," and only 15 runs were scored; Barron captured four wickets for 3 runs, and Barnett three for 8. Requiring only 36 runs for victory, Benhar were dismissed for 29. Heads (two for 10) and Calder (two for 6) secured the best averages for Milton B.
