MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon and was attended by Messrs J. Hellyer (in the chair), J. Mitchell, C. Morns, S. P. Cameron, B. S. Irwin, H. M. Driver, J. Mosley, A. C. Begg, J. B. Blair, R. T. Kirk. S. Bowman, J. M. Fraser and C. M. Bruce. Finance Committee The Finance Committee met on Thursday morning and recommended payment of accounts amounting to £1274 lis 2d. The bank balance was £357 12s 8d in debit with unpresented cheques amounting to £3B lis. The Summer Show statement of receipts and expenditure was tabled for consideration and the profit of £75 on the fixture was considered very satisfactory considering the weather conditions experienced on the first day and the consequent postponement of the night entertainment. Correspondence A letter from the town clerk in reference to the charges for engines by the Railways Department on the Tahuna siding was fully discussed, and it was decided to advise the City Council that owing to the cost of the necessary repairs to the line it was not the intention of the society to use it further. TT Advice was received from the Harbour Board solicitors to the effect that immediately the valuation fees were paid the new valuations of the Crawford street premises would be forwarded.—Noted. The Timaru Winter Show secretary wrote advising that the dates set for their 1939 show were July 1 to 8. The Royal Agricultural Society and the Clydesdale florse Society forwarded their latest Gazette and Review- • , ,-. Messrs J. B. Mac Ewan and Co. wrote altering the conditions.for their special prizes in the cheese and butter sections at the Winter Show.—These were noted and a vote of thanks passed to the donors. General The secretary was instructed to get prices for necessary repair work in the offices occupied by the Dunedin Jockey Club, and to confer with Mr Mitchell before putting the work in hand. Temporary repairs to the roof on the store occupied by Messrs J. B. Waters were approved. It was noted that Mr Acland and Mr James Begg would represent the Meat Board at the export lamb competition at the Burnside Freezing Works, and. as the president would be unable to attend, Mr J. M. Fraser was appointed to act as the official representative of the society. Some discussion took place on the importation of stud stock, and a comparison made with conditions in Australia, where, owing to the assistance given to those importing stock, regular shiDments of pedigree animals were being imported. The displays of stock at the recent shows was evidence of the improvement that was taking place in the stock generally in that country. It was decided that the Minister of Agriculture and the Meat Board be written to pointing out the necessity for improved facilities for importing stock in order to keep New Zealand stock up to the standard required for export markets. It was decided that the next meeting 'of the committee be held in February.
