WILDING SHIELD CHALLENGE WAIKATO'S HARD TASK (Per United Pbess Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 16. As a result of the first day's play in the Wilding Shield challenge match, Auckland, the holder of the trophy, has set Waikato a difficult proposition, and the visitors will have to stage a miraculous recovery to succeed.. The Auckland players won all six matches decided to-day—four Singles and two Doubles. The following were the results:— Singles N. G. Sturt (Auckland) beat D. Clow (Waikato) 6—o, 6—o. N. F. Bedford (Auckland) beat F. Jenkinson (Waikato) 6—3, 6—l. J. T. Mayson (Auckland) beat D. Livingstone (Waikato) 12—10, 6--4. J. W. Gunn (Auckland) beat J. Roach (Waikato) 6—2, 6—2. Doubles J. T. Mayson and N. G. Sturt (Auckland) beat D. Clow and F. Jenkinson (Waikato) 6—2, 6—4. N. F. Bedford and J. W. Gunn (Auckland) beat D. Livingstone and J. Roach (Waikato) 6—o, 6—4.
