RANFURLY

Returned Soldiers' Association Monday evening was the date set down for the quarterly meeting of the Maniototo Returned Soldiers' Association Committee. The president, Mr D. McKillop, occupied the chair. Correspondence from the New Zealand Defence League was received, and the following committee was appointed to discuss the matter and report to the next meeting:—Messrs Greer, Black. Keogh, Todd, and Christian. Several letters with regard to pensions and relief were received and fully discussed. Opportunity was taken to bid farewell to a member of the executive and reunion committees, Mr M. Mirftn, prior to his departure on transfer on promotion to Oamaru. Mr McKillop, on behalf of the association, presented the guest of the evening, whose toast was proposed by Mr J. Andrews, with a bedroom alarm clock. Winter Sports Ranfurly has long felt the need of a large and suitable enough area for ice skating and curling activities. With a view to supplying this need, several meetings of local sporting bodies and those interested in winter sports have been held. When it was known that sufficient financial support was forthcoming from the business people and residents of Ranfurly, it was finally decided to build a dam on the area known as Bandy's dam that will provide a skating area of five acres. Tenders for the construction of the retaining dam have already been called, and work will be commenced almost immediately. Ranfurly Domain Board For some months past the Domain Board has been busily engaged in making several improvements to the Domain ground. Provision has now been made for a motor camp, which, with the facilities, provided, should make an ideal site for motorists.
