CEDED TO HUNGARY

CZECHOSLOVAKIAN AREAS DECISION IN THE DISPUTE NEW FRONTIERS ANNOUNCED (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) VIENNA, Nov. 2. (Received Nov. 3, at 10 p.m.) The decision of Italy and Germany in the dispute between Czechoslovakia and Hungary creates a new frontier beginning from the old frontier southwards to Bratislava, thence crossing the Bratislava-Buda-pest railway westward of Noyezamky, reaching the Hungarian frontier eastward of Halmeu and Sevlus. Ruthenia remains with Czechoslovakia, while Hungary receives Kucenec, Device, Roznava, Kosice, Uzhorod, and Mukacevo. Occupation of the ceded areas will begin on November 5 and end on November 10. SLOVAKS DISAPPOINTED FORMAL PROTEST EXPECTED LONDON, Nov. 3. (Received Nov. 3, at 9.15 p.m.) The Times Vienna correspondent says that when the terms of the Cze-choslovakian-Hungarian award were known, the Slovaks were most disconcerted and refused to attend the formal reading of the award. A more formal protest may be expected, and there is even talk of active resistance. The correspondent adds; —“While it would be too much to say that the proceedings were a formality, there is little doubt that the decision was reached while Herr von Ribbentrop was in Rome. There is surprise that the Slovaks were not treated better in view of Germany’s favourable attitude. It is assumed that the award was the result of pressure from Italy for compensation for her attitude to Germany during the Austrian and Sudeten questions.” CZECHOSLOVAKIA’S LOSS PRAGUE, Nov. 2. The settlement of the Czechoslovakian frontier means that Czechoslovakia has lost 60,000 square miles, the best ski-ing, grounds, and half of the highest mountain, Gerlash. REJOICING IN BUDAPEST “THE SUN SHINES AGAIN” BUDAPEST, Nov. 3. (Received Nov. 4, at 1 a.m.) Crowds paraded the streets when the Italo-German award was made known, shouting “ Long live Mussolini. Dr Imredy, in a broadcast, said: “After 20 years, the sun shines again in Hungary.”
