DUNEDIN SOUTH SEAT WITHDRAWAL OF MR CONN Owing to unforeseen circumstances, Mr F. J. Conn has found it necessary to withdraw his candidature on behalf of the National Party for the Dunedin South electorate. AUCKLAND WEST SEAT PRIME MINISTER'S OPPONENT AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. Subject to the approval of the national headquarters of the party, Mr H. M. Bagnall has been selected as the National Party's candidate for the Auckland West seat at the general election. The seat is at present held by the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage). At a meeting of National Party electors to-night, Mr Bagnall, Mr E. D. Stallworthy, and Mr G V. Mullinger, presented themselves for selection as the candidate for the seat. It had been arranged to eliminate one man at the first ballot and another at the second ballot, but Mr Bagnall received an outright majority at the first polling. More than 300 votes were recorded.
Mr Bagnall was born at Auckland in 1903, being a member of a family with a long association with local body politics. One uncle, Mr L. J. Bagnall, was formerly Mayor of Auckland. For the past 10 years Mr Bagnall has been associated with the transport industry, and at present he is manager of the White Star office at Auckland.
