THE JULY ISSUE In the latest issue of the Railways Magazine James Cowan tells a vivid story of the “ Royal Tigers,” the old 65th Regiment, in the days when British bayonet clashed with Maori tomahawks. Ken Alexander with comic drawings and merry prose cleverly states a case to entice tourists to New Zealand, and O. N. Gillespie, in “ The Golden Year for New Zealand Literature,” reviews the work of writers who have won their way to the front. Nellie E. Donovan gives the third chapter of “The Magic Island,” a delightful romance for children. Dr E. P. Neale concludes his interesting historical series of articles, “ The Heyday of Railway Construction in New Zealand,” and A. J. G. Schmitt has another exciting chapter of his story, “ The Sawmiller.” Other features include chats on books and authors, New Zealand verse, sport, and helpful notes for women. About 60 pictures, including original drawings, are distributed through the 64 pages.
