Mayor’s Honorhrlum At the first statutory meeting of Milton Borough Council it was. agreed that the Mayor’s honorarium be increased by £5 to £45, the increase to assist towards paying cost of the Mayor’s telephone. >' Labour Address Mr A. G. Osborne, MP. for Menukau, delivered an address to an audience of about 40 electors in St. John’s Hall on what was probably the worst night experienced locally for many months. The conditions, no doubt, accounted for the meagre attendance. He spoke for two hours t and a-half, during which he replied to the criticism of Labour’s opponents and gave a resume of the Labour Government’s achievements. At the conclusion of his address, several questions were asked, and a vote of thanks as well as a vote of confidence in the Government was moved by Mr P. Keogh. Mr D. M. Mawson (Mayor of Milton) presided. Personal Miss M. Robertson, who joined the staff of the Nelson Hospital about 12 months ago, is at present visiting Milton on annual leave, and is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs R. Robertson, of Helensbrook. She is accompanied by Mr Trevor Inwood, of the staff of the Nelson Mail. They will leave next Tuesday on the return trip.
Bruoe Returned Soldiers' Association The committee of the Bruce Returned Soldiers’ Association has decided to tender a complimentary social evening to the Poppy Day helpers and to fill others who had assisted the association during the year. Invitations have been issued to all the guests, and the evening, which will be held in St. John's Hall next week, will be spent in competitions, etc., followed by the screening of the film depicting the Anfac Day services In Sydney. /
