PRIMARY PRODUCERS
UNITY OF ORGANISATIONS FARMERS’ UNION PROPOSALS (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 2. The organisation of all primary producers into one body was sought by the North Canterbury District of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at the annual provincial conference to-day, which adopted two remits asking for greater unity among producers for the furtherance of their interests. The following remits were discussed in committee, and were afterwards reported to have been carried:—
“ That provision be made In the constitution for the affiliation of all organisations or associations of primary producers into the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, thus forming a complete primary producers’ federation, such organisations to have direct representation in local branches, and thenceforward in the provincial and Dominion executives.” “ That, as it is more than ever necessary for farmers to speak with a united voice, the executive be urged to make further endeavours to amalgamate the Farmers’ Union and the Sheepowners’ Union into one body.”
