CALIFORNIA SHAKEN
SEVERE EARTH TREMOR ♦ NO DAMAGE REPORTED LOS ANGELES, May 31. An earthquake, one of the severest since 1933, shook Southern California, but there was no damage. The shock was felt over 200 miles in the coastal area from Santa Barbara to San Diego, and 150 miles inland. The earthcmake lasted for several seconds, frightening families from their sleep and rattling dishes in cupboards.
