GRAND NATIONAL CONCERT
Particulars are advertised' in this issue of the grand national concert which is conducted annually by the Otago Centre of the Piping and Dancing A.sscc ation, and which is to take place in the Concert Chamber on Monday. A special feature of the programme is that not one of the 17 oerformers is scheduled to appear more than once. Included in the list are Mr Walter Mitchell; Miss Bertha Rawlinson, who. out of a total of 748 entrants. recently won the Melba Trophy for the champion of champions at Sydney; Jamie Paterson, presenting such items a.s “ I’ve Just Got Off the Chain ” and “ Doon by the Riverside ”; and, under special engagement, there will appear for the first time in Dunedin the young Wellington elocutionist Donald Young. Some of the others who will make their appearance are Misses Mary Pratt, Dora Drake. Ruth Millar, Messrs Arthur Macdonald, Archie Jones. Alfred Walmsley, and Arthur Lungley. The instrumental items will be in the hands of Rees McConachy (violinist) and Ted Heaney (p ano-accordion). Selections on the national instrument will be given by Pipe-major Murdo MacKenzie, of Masterton. and the Irish reel and Highland reel will be presented by two champion reel parties, the programme being completed by selections from the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band.
