SELF-CONQUEST FIRST
We have no natural aptitude for war, writes the novelist, Mr James Hilton, in This Week Magazine. We have learned the lesson that all war destroys; that there can be no war to end wars, since all wars begin other wars. What shall we do to be saved? Mr Hilton asks—and answers it thus: While the tyrant conquers the earth, he who is eventually to dethrone him must first conquer himself. There can be no new quality in our civilisation till there are new qualities in our minds and hearts.”
