AFTER-HOURS TRADING
ENFORCEMENT OF LAW A BOUNTIFUL GOVERNMENT (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 1. The question of after-hours trading by certain shopkeepers has been the subject of representations to the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage) by retailers who asked for legislative action to prevent it. The Prime Minister, in an interview to-day, said he had told the retailers that there was no chance of a consolidation of the Shops and Offices Act, but he .had assured them that the Government could do nothing less than enforce the present law. “ I think some change is needed,” he said, “ but we need time also. We have already exceeded the things we promised to do when we came into office, and I think we are the only Government that can lay claim to that.” ,
