AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS AT , BRISTOL BRADMAN’S STRAINED BACK LONDON, June 1. (Received June 2, at 1 a.m.) Owing to light rain following a downpour during the night, there was no play before lunch in the match Australia v. Gloucester, which is to take place at Bristol. Apart from the injured Barnes, Bradman, Fingleton, and White are standing down from the Australian team. The twelfth man is Walker. Bradman’s strained back has not yet been diagnosed. He is unable, as he intended, to play at Bristol, and he may be obliged to rest until the test. He has gone to London for treatment. TEST TRIAL BEGINS PAYNTER COMMENCES WELL LONDON, June 1. (Received June 2, at 1.15 a.m) The first test trial began at Lord’s this morning. The weather was dull and the wicket soft. The Rest won the toss and decided to bat. At lunch the score was two wickets for 97. M. S. Nichols, of Essex, will replace G. O. Allen (Middlesex), who is unfit for the test trial. . ’ MIDDLESEX MATCH DRAWN SPORTING DECLARATION EDRICH ENABLED TO GET 1000 RUNS IN MAY LONDON, May 31. The match between Australia and Middlesex was drawn. It ended on a sporting note, Bradman declaring closed Australia’s second innings to allow Edrich to score the 10 runs necessary to complete his 1000 runs in May. Edrich made 20 in 12 minutes. At lunch to-day the Middlesex innings closed for 188 in reply to the tourists’ first innings total of 132. Play was not resumed until 2.50 owing to rain, and the wicket was tricky. Badcock was out in Novell's first over. Bradman began uncertainly, but Fingleton was quite confident, and batted very well. Later Bradman became accustomed to the wicket. McCabe was in excellent form, and batted brilliantly.
