DECREASE IN REGISTRATIONS MANY LIABLE TO PROSECUTION (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 1. Only a few more than half of the people holding motor-driving licences issued by the Christchurch City Council last year have so far taken out licences for 1938-39. The licences issued to-day numbered 701, bringing ihe total to 8518 out of 16,005 issued last year, so that approximately 7500 people lay themselves open to prosecution if they take their cars out on the road to-morrow. The 8518 people who have taken out new licences were not all drivers last year, for the number includes about 140 persons who qualified for licences by tests during May. The number of new motor licences taken out on Mav 31 was 1447. making a total of 11.971. This total was greater by more than 1000 than the total at May 31 last year, which was 10.681.
