MASTERS AND OFFICERS’ DISPUTE i CONCILIATION PROCEEDINGS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 1. The .hearing was commenced before the Conciliation Council to-day of the coastal masters and officers’ dispute. Mr T. 0. Bishop, the employers’ advocate. said the last award was made as the result of a complete agreement. The Merchant Guild was now proposing practically to drop the classification agreed to for the northern district. in addition to seeking wage increases. Captain Maclndoe, advocate for the masters and officers, said it could not be conceded that there was any real difference between conditions in the north and those in the south. The proposed alteration in the classification of vessels in the northern industrial district and the wages question were discussed, but no agreement was reached, and the council will meet again to-morrow.
