GOVERNMENT OF EIRE DIVISION ON PRIVATE MOTION MR DE VALERA’S POSITION (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) DUBLIN, May 26. (Received May 26, at 10.30 p.m.) Mr de Valera’s Government was defeated yesterday by 52 votes to 51 on a private motion in the Dail. Immediately the Dail was adjourned. It is, however, understood that Mr de Valera does not propose to resign. Instead, he will ask the Dail for a vote of confidence and abide by its decision. THE EIRE LOAN CLOSED BEFORE ARRANGED DATE * LONDON, May 26. (Received May 26, at 9 p.m.) The Eire Loan of £ 10,000,000 which was opened on May 23, and which was to close on May 28, has been closed. The Government took up £4,000,000. A message published on May 6 stated: —Mr Sean MacEntee (Minister for Finance) announced in the Dail that a loan would shortly be floated to assist Eire to meet the payment of £10,000,000 to Britain.
