MILTON Personal Miss Doris Smoothy, a daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Smoothy, Chaucer street, left on Thursday to enter the nursing profession at Nelson Public Hospital. She was accompanied on the trip by her mother. Prior to leaving Milton Miss Smoothy was the recipient of numerous gifts from friends, including a crystal clock from the Girl Guides and a reversible rug from workmates at the Bruce Woollen Mills. Mrs Leslie Tweedie, of Wellington, and formerly of Milton, and her daughter are visiting Milton at present, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs W. H. Wells, Ajax street. They will leave to-morrow morning for Christchurch.

Lime Works Busy The three lime companies operating in the Milburn district are experiencing an exceptionally busy period at present, one company working three shifts, and another two shifts. Although this is normally the off season, and the weekly output is about 700 tons, last week's tonnage railed from the Milburn I'ailway station totalled 2156 tons, three times the normal output for this period. St. John Ambulance The Milton Division of the St. John Ambulance opening evening of the 1938 season was largely attended, there being about 45 local people present. Six male and two female members of the Dunedin Corps were in attendance, and each of the visitors addressed the gathering, after which about an hour’s demonstration on roller and triangular bandaging was given. This was followed by a dance. Election Re-count The official re-count of the voting for three representatives of Bruce County on the South Otago Hospital Board shows that Mr A. King’s total is increased by six to 419, Mr Alexander Renton’s by two to 329, Mr T. H. Russell’s by three to 280. Mr D. McGregor’s total remains stationary at 313. The official re-count of the voting in the Harbour Board election for one representative for the combined counties of Bruce. Bible Class Camp

The eighth annual camp of the South Otago Presbyterian Bible classes was held at Purekireki, in the Catlins Valley. About 25 members attended, and an enjoyable time was spent. The study book used was the Easter study by the Rev. J. S. Murray. M.A., and the circle leaders were Messrs L. W. Dunn, J. Mitchell, G. W. Murray, and L. M. Dunn. Only one member, Mr J. Mitchell, president of the S.O. district, has attended all the camps. Addresses were delivered by the Revs. C. McKenzie, R. Blair, R. Judson, A. L. Miller, and R. Dodds. A concert was held on the Saturday evening, and assistance was given by Miss Craigie and Messrs South and Allen, visitors from Owaka. The sports meeting was greatly enjoyed, the “ cup ” being won by Waiwera-Warepa parish. The camp father gave a message of farewell before camp broke up.

Play-reading Circle At the fifth annual meeting of the Milton Play-reading Circle Mr R. M. Rutherford was elected president, Miss J. Sharpe secretary and treasurer, and Mesdames Rutherford, George, Wethey, and Hitchon, and Messrs George, Sherwood, and Hannah the committee.
