THEFT IN AUCKLAND

OVER £2OO STOLEN MONEY NOT IN SAFE » (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 18. The theft of a large sum of money, believed to exceed £2OO, from the premises of Messrs Walter Lambourne, Ltd., house furnishers, Ponsonby, is being investigated by detectives. The money, which was contained in bags, was found to be missing when the firm's premises were opened for business on Tuesday morning, and the police were advised. The money, which included bank notes and cheques, was not left in the safe when the premises were closed on Monday. It was thought, however, to have been put away securely, but it was located by the intruder who, so far, has evaded detection. There is an element of mystery surrounding the theft. Alterations am in progress at the shop, and it is not known precisely by what means the thief gained entry. The investigation is being continued.
