VICTIMS OF AIR CRASH
EXTENT OF INJURIES INQUEST AGAIN ADJOURNED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND. May 13. Evidence regarding the injuries suffered by Commander Cyril Mercer Duthie, aged 30, and Second-officer William Peel, aged 24, who were killed when the Union Airways liner Kotare crashed at Mangere aerodrome on Tuesday, was given by Dr W. Gilmour, pathologist at Auckland Hospital, at the adjourned inquest. Dr Gilmour stated that Commander Duthie suffered fractures of facial bones, the upper left arm and the right forearm, both thighs and legs, and extensive fractures of the ribs. The body of Second-officer Peel was extensively burned and injured. The skull was severely fractured, and both legs and the left arm were broken. The inquest was adjourned.
FUNERAL OF COMMANDER DUTHIE POPULARITY OF THE DECEASED (Per United Press Association) FEILDING, May 13. Deep public sympathy was shown yesterday when the funeral took place here of the late Commander Duthie. The cortege was one of the longest seen for years, the attendance testifying to the popularity of the deceased and to the respect for his parents, a well-known Feilding family. All airways services and aero clubs of New Zealand were present or represented, the pallbearerg being drawn from various parts of the Dominion. They were Commander A. A. Kirkup. Commander K. A. Brownjohn. Secondofficer C. Alleson. Mr E. M. Buxton (Pan-American Airways) , Mr L. Mangham (chief engineer of the Milson aerodrome), and Mr J. E. Moore (father-in-law of the deceased).
