JUBILEE BALL

WAITAKI GIRLS* HIGH SCHOOL The Wailaki Girls’ High School jubilee celebrations were brought to a conclusion on Tuesday night with a very successful and enjoyable jubilee ball, which was held in the School and Assembly Halls. About 250 couples attended, and an atmosphere of festivity prevailed throughout the evening. The School Hall was beautifully decorated for all the jubilee celebrations. The school colours, red and black, naturally predominated, but greenery, gaily-coloured paper (lowers, butterflies, and spiders added a very bright touch. The stage and surrounding walls were decorated in red and black, with a large replica of the school badge across the centre, smaller badges appearing at intervals around the walls. The words “ Golden Jubilee, 1887-1938," carried out in gold lettering, made a very effective display. Additional lighting, with a central candelabra represented the 50 years of the school’s history. A lighted pathway connected the School Hall with the Assembly

Hall, which was gaily decorated with coloured curtains, light, and balloons. Music, which was broadcast to the Assembly Hall, was supplied by the New Majestic Orchestra. A buffet supper was served in the Junior High School. The committee responsible for the arrangements was: —Mesdames Colin Clark (convener), and G. Restieux, and Misses M. Armstrong, M. Ireland.
