RACE-DAY RAID BY POLICE TWO OFFENDERS FINED (Per United Press Association) WANGANUI, May 13. A sandhill adjacent to the Wanganui racecourse, which after levelling is now the site of a number of Government houses, has for many years provided a popular and free vantage point for the public on race days. Locally known as “Bookies’ Hill, this eminence was raided by the police on the occasion of the first day of the Wanganui Jockey Club’s winter meeting on Thursday last, and as a result Francis La Pouplc and Patrick Bourke appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today and pleaded guilty to charges of bookmaking.
