THE KAIKORAI VALLEY ROAD

TO THE EDITOR Sir.—Once again I wish to draw the City Council's attention to the abominable dust nuisance on the Kaikorai Valley road. I would like to know what the intention of the council is regarding this road. I must admit that since my last letter through the columns of this paper the water cart has visited the road daily, but what is going to happen over the Christmas holidays? Last Saturday and Sunday there was nothing but a cloud of dust and grit, caused by the heavy traffic on this road, which no doubt should be taken over as a main highway. I notice that numbers of side streets are being sealed: why not do something to this much-used road? What is wrong with Kaikorai? If people are to be encouraged to come out to the suburbs and live, why not clean ud this road once and for all? I notice considerable attention is being paid to Wakari and Roslyn at the present time. I surmise that these districts will be handier for the buses, or maybe the roads are tar-sealed. I would just like to remind the City Council that this state of affairs is not going to be allowed to continue. Election time is drawing near. Let the councillors make no mistake; if nothing is done, out they go. I do not wish to comment any further on this matter, as in the past I have repeatedly expressed my views, but I would strongly advise the ratepayers and residents to get together and send a strong deputation to the council, demanding thau something should be done. Perhaps the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers Association will take this matter up, as it is doing a lot of beneficial work for this district. May I invite the Mayor and councillors to visit this road on 'a fine day, in which case they may have their eyes opened and filled witn dust and grit?—l am. etc.. 189 Kaikorai Valley road.
