Farewell to County Engineer Many tributes were paid to the work of Mr C. E. Bremner. the retiring engineer, al a dinner given in his honour at the conclusion of a meeting of the Geraldine County Council. Mr Bremner was presented with an illuminated address and a silver salver as a token of the appreciation of his services to the council over a period of 18 years. Colonel K. Mackenzie presided, and among the speakers were Messrs A. W. Buzan (Mayor of Temuka) and J. Bitchener (chairman. Waimate County Council). Mr Bremner briefly acknowledged the tributes paid him, and thanked the chairman and councillors for the courtesy that had always been extended to him as their engineer. Acclimatisation Society With the exception that application should be made for permission to issue a 10s licence instead of a £1 one. for shooting Californian quail, no changes have been made in the local regulations for the next shooting season. This was agreed upon at the monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. Raine Memorial Prizes At a meeting of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society the awards were announced in the competition for the Raine Memorial essay prizes as follows:—Senior division: Doreen Denison (Temuka District High School) and Albert Priest (Pleasant Point District High School) equal, first. Junior division: Doreen Connor and Gerald Gibb (Pleasant Point District High School) equal, first. The subject was: " The Benefit of Trout Fishing to South Canterbury."
