STOREMEN AND PACKERS
DOMINION AWARD SOUGHT CASE BEFORE THE COURT (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 7. An application by the New Zealand Federated Storemen and Packers (other than retail shops) and Warehouse Employees' (other than drivers and clerks) Industrial Association of Workers and it:, affiliated organisations for a new Dominion award covering storemen and packers was held to-day by the Second Arbitration Court. Mr Justice Hunter presided, and with him were Mr W E. Anderson and Mr A. J Croskery lay members. Mr W. Brotherson, assisted by Mr W Miller appeared for the union, and Mr T J Bishop represented the employers Hours of work and wages were the chief matters not agreed upon in the Conciliation Council The other matters in dispute included the weight to be handled or trucked by one man and the application of the award <n so far as it related to workers substantially employed as storemen and packers and to certain other workers. By arrangement with the union the employers called the first witness, who substantiated the claims for a 44-hour week worked on five davs and a-half. The evidence was not completed when the court adjourned.
