NORTHERN RUSSIA
ADDRESS BY MR H. PERRY "With the British Forces in Northern Russia" formed the subject of a particularly interesting address by Mr H Perry to an appreciative audience in the Returned Soldiers' Club rooms last evening. Mr J. M. White was in the chair. Mr Perry, who was one of four New Zealanders who spent about 10 months in Archangel after the Armistice was signed, gave an interesting description of the living conditions in that town and the particularly severe winters that were experienced every season. The customs of the inhabitants, from peasant class to. aristocrats, and the military operations carried out during the winter provided the speaker with ample material with which to maintain the keen interest of his audience, and the types of amusements, the difficulties of mastering the language, and a number of individual experiences, pleasant and otherwise, were included in an illuminating address.. On the motion of Mr O. Begg, the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion of his address.
