QUEENSTOWN

The Weather The last few days mid-summer heat has been experienced. The residents and visitors are donning their very lightest clothes. The conditions have been ideal for visitors. Shortage of Water Owing to the dry weather the town water supply has been considerably reduced, and in order to conserve the water residents have been asked to exercise the greatest care in the use of it. Light irrigation is permitted in one part of the town in the morning and the remainder in the evening. Cricket A scratch team made up of members of the local railway and steamer staff engaged in a match with the local club at the week-end. The result was determined on a one-innings game in favour of the club by 96 runs. The railway staff went in first and knocked up 91 runs (J. Dwyer and J. Taylor 13, W. Matthews 11. B. Anderson 14t. Queenstown Club responded with 187 (R. Anderson 39, G. Lynch 29, J. T. Lynch and J. Lindsay 28 each, W. Robins 15). Railway, in a second innings, compiled 100, extras accounting for 41 runs. Rifle Shooting The Wakatipu Defence Rifle Club held a cup shoot on Saturday last. The conditions were seven shots at 300, 500,' and 600 yards. The day was very hot, with a tricky fish-tail wind which told against high scores. Following are the results:—

Simson button. Bowling A party of British bowlers, who are travelling New Zealand, will arrive in Queenstown on December 13, The party consists of 20 men and 16 women. On Tuesday afternoon the visitors hope to meet some of the local bowlers on the green. On Wednesday afternoon four rinks from the' Dunedin Centre will come to Queenstown and join with one rink of the Wakatipu Club in a match against the visitors. Concert of Dominican Pupils The pupils of the local Dominican Nuns gave their annual concert in the Garrison Hall on Friday last. There was a good attendance. The programme was a very varied one, and embraced choruses, orchestral, vocal, and instrumental numbers, recitations, playettes, and an operetta entitled “The Blackbirds and the Maid.’’ The whole performance possessed considerable merit, and reflected great credit on the quality of the tuition given by the nuns. An enjoyable dance was held at the conclusion of the concert. Personal Mr R. Climie, of Maori Point, has gone to Sawyers’ Bay for a short holiday. Mrs S. B. Visby has returned to Wellington after spending a holiday with her sister. Mrs N. M. Hall. Mrs Quelch, of Mosgiel. and her daughter, spent a few days in Queenstown recently. Mr and Mrs C. Brent, of Christchurch, are making a holiday stay in Queenstown. Mr F. Benfell. of the New Zealand Railways staff, Invercargill, has been transferred to Queenstown.
