EFFICIENT SERVICE
GOVERNMENT TOURIST BUREAU AN AUSTRALIAN'S TRIBUTE (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. A reply to the recent criticism of the New Zealand Government Tourist Bureau was given by an Australian visitor, Mr T. W. Mitchell, who arrived by the Aorangi on his seventh trip to the Dominion. " The criticisms were definitely unfair and from my experience were also untrue," Mr Mitchell said. " I have never once had cause for complaint as to inefficiency in respect of the bureau. In fact, I have found its staff amazingly helpful, as well as being particularly friendly and personally interested in persons from abroad, for whom they will do their utmost to ensure complete enjoyment on holiday tours."
As to the allegations that the bureau tends to put tourists against going to the South Island, Mr Mitchell said that generally people themselves chose to travel no further than the North Island, due to financial and geographical reasons. "If their budgets are in any way limited, tourists are unable to go to the more distant scenic resorts of the South Island, but can, mainly on account of the direct shipping contacts, concentrate on seeing much of the North Island," Mr Mitchell concluded.
