TENDERS FOR FIFTY-SIX ACCEPTED ADDITIONAL LAND PURCHASED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter* WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. Tenders have been accepted for 56 new houses and the land has been bought for building 85 more throughout the Dominion under the Government housing scheme, according to an announcement made today by Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-secretary in Charge of Housing. Of these totals the tenders for nine additional houses have been accepted in Lower Hutt, and the land purchased for the erection of 27 more in Pukekohe. The land has been purcha'sed for 17 houses in Napier, and tenders for the erection of the 17 houses accepted. Similar tenders have been accepted for eight in Gisborne, 10 in Oamaru and 13 in New Plymouth, while in Eltham the land hag been purchased for the erection of 15 houses, 18 at Waimate and eight at Gore. WAIMATE AND GORE PURCHASES OF LAND (From Oub Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON. Nov. 18. Details of further Government housing activity in the southern district were announced to-day by the Under-secretary in Charge of Housing (Mr J. A. Lee). The approval of the Cabinet has been obtained for the purchase of four acres of land at Waimate, sufficient to provide 18 houses. As soon as formalities are completed in this instance the Housing Department anticipates being able to initiate the first instalment of the Government’s scheme in this town. Tenders for the erection of a further group of 10 houses, comprising three separate contracts —two contracts of four houses each and one of two houses —have been accepted by the Cabinet. The successful contractors are Messrs Maynard and Armstrong, of Oamaru. The Cabinet has approved of the purchase of two acres of land in Gore, comprising sufficient areas for eight houses, and when the necessary, formalities are completed tenders will be called for a group of houses in this town.
