AMATEUR ROWING
CREWS FOR EMPIRE GAMES TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association at Wellington to-night it was decided to proceed at once with the arrangements necessary to enable the crews selected to represent the Dominion at the British Empire Games to begin their preliminary training. The eight-oar crew will assemble at Wanganui about January 2, the Fours will assemble at Wellington, and R. B. Smith, the sculling representative, will continue to train at Auckland. Though the full guarantee required to meet the costs of the trip to Sydney has not yet been confirmed, the council expects that both the Canterbury and Otago Associations will contribute their quota. The appointment of a coach will be made next week. W. Stodart (Wanganui) has been selected to cox the Eight, and the council has nominated A. M. Hale (Blenheim) as assistant manager of the team. The date chosen for the Inlerprovmcial Eight-oar Championship at Wanganui, April 18, 1938, was confirmed by the meeting. Mr D. R. Menzies was re-elected chairman of the council.
