CRUSHED TO DEATH ACCIDENT IN RAILWAY YARDS (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 17. As the result ol an accident which occurred In the railway yards this morning, Bowen Barnett Hades a metal worker's assistant, aged 16. received injuries from which he died while being conveyed to hospital Eades, in company wi.h two mei, and another assistant was engaged m loading a locomotive on to a railway truck. The jacking up of the locomotive had just commenced when t slipped sideways and jammed the bo> against the railway truck He was badly crushed about the pelvis ana received internal injuries A doctor was immediately summoned and the ambulance notified, but it was about .?"> minutes before the injured boy could be extricated, and he died on the way to hospital in the ambulance BOY FATALLY WOUNDED ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE OF RIFLE (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 17 The accidental discharge of a 22calibre rifle caused the death of Duncan Boyd, aged 14, at Queenstown this afternoon. The boy. who was a son of Duncan Boyd, a farmer of Frankton. was staying with a friend who is said to have picked up the rifle which his father had used to shoot birds in the strawberry garden. He was showing Boyd how it worked when It went off. the bullet entering Boyd’s neck MAN AND WIFE INJURED RESIDENTS OF ST. KILDA Mr and Mrs Peter McTainsh, of St. Kilda, who were both seriously Injured when a car driven by Mr McTainsh crashed into a telegraph pole near St. .Andrews last Thursday night, are still inmates of the Timaru Hospital, and are likely to be there for some weeks. Advice received from the hospital states, however, that there is an improvement la tne condition of both patients.
