REVOLT IN KURDISTAN

TRIAL OF TRIBESMEN THE LEADERS EXECUTED INSTANBUL, Nov. 15. A revolt in the Dersim district of Kurdistan in April, in which 5000 tribesmen were involved, was disclosed with the death sentence, followed by hanging, of the leader, Seyid Riza, and 10 associates. Four others were sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment, with hard labour. Heavy penalties were imposed on 43 others. The tribes Lad only recently come under Kemal Ataturk's modernising ideas, and resented the new administrative division's methods of collecting taxes. They preferred the old method of bargaining with the chiefs and objected to the presence of gendarmes and soldiers. The Government was obliged to use a force of 30,000 to suppress the risihg. They employed bomber planes. Riza's house was hit by the famous young Turkish airwoman Sabiha Goekchen.
