"EVERYBODY'S FAIR"
SALVATION ARMY FESTIVAL "Everybody's Fair," the main item in the Salvation Army's appeal for funds, was commenced in the Dowling Street Citadel yesterday. The opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox), Lieu-tenant-colonel F. Burton, field secretary, presiding. During the afternoon a short programme of musical items was presented. The stalls were well stocked to meet with the brisk sale. The following were in charge of the various departments:—Gas cooking demonstration, Miss I. Findlay; cakes, Mrs Green and Mrs Dakers; papier mache stall, Mrs Hay and Mrs Adjutant Dick; fancy goods, Mrs Crow and Mrs Viney; flowers, Master V. Dick; groceries, Mr and Mrs Reay; cordials. Misses N. Gould, D. Joss. D. Barr, and E. Milland; novelty tree, Mrs McKinna; fancy work, Mrs C. Brown and members of the Home League; apron, stall, Mrs Major Elford, Mrs Higman, and Mrs Polkington; women's stall, Mrs Nicol, Miss Sewell, and Miss Gilroy; confectionery, Mrs Lemin and young helpers; tea rooms. Mrs Joss and Miss Nicholson. The fair was continued in the evening, with an " International Night" programme. This afternoon a special women's session will be held, and in the evening the St. John Ambulance Corps and Nursing Division members will give a demonstration. To-morrow afternoon there will be a "baby competition and show" and a demonstration by the Boy Scouts' Brigade. Gas cooking instructional lectures will be given daily by Miss Findlay.
